Nationals housing

Our coaches have gotten us a private house in Regina to stay in as a team for nationals and NO PARENTS ALLOWED. This is gonna be so much fun. Team bonding to the max..

Diane Scott, the head coach of the Wesmen University team knows someone out in Regina that rents houses and managed to get one for the team! We get to stay there with our two coaches who are university students so the rules won't be strict at all. Plus my coaches have the FUNNIEST stories about when they were our age and embarrasing moments which always manage to make the whole team laugh. I cannot wait for nationals, this will be an expierence I will never forget.

Tournament change update

This weekend Wesmen was suppose to be in a tournament starting on Friday in Portage and finishing on Saturday. Since Portage is an hour drive away, we were planning on staying overnight. But, the teams in that tournament got an email yesterday saying that all the games will be held on Saturday, so there will be no need for an overnight stay. Now, my team only has one more overnight tournament this season!! We were bummed.

Injuries suck, simple as that.

I am quite familiar with the whole idea of injuries.. sadly.

I have had knee problems for the past two years, so I am used to it by now. But, when I hurt my lower back during my most recent tournament, I panicked.

I guess I never fully realized how much your back does for you, and how much you use it, until it hurt so much that I was afraid to move at all. Thankfully, this injury happened during one of the last points of the set, so I was able to sit down and rest it right away. I told my coaches that I think I had hurt it, and one of them tried to pinpoint the exact location by pressing on my lower back. I started tearing up because of the extremity of the pain. I sat out for the rest of the game and attempted to stretch it out in the hopes that it might feel better and I could play in the finals. But after the game had finished, the pain had not become any less, if anything, the pain was even worse than before. I sat out of the finals and cheered on my team from the bench. Later that night, I went home and iced my back over and over. The next day I stretched it out and iced it more. It was still tender but slowly getting better, which means I didn't do any permant or serious to my back. Thank goodness.. I went to practice two nights after the intial incident and I felt pretty close to good as knew. I guess it was just a scare, nothing serious. You have no idea how grateful I am for that fact.

Impact Tournament

15U Wesmen will be at the Impact Tournament this weekend held in Winnipeg.

The Impact team is made up of mostly MBCI players and are said to be a good team. Last weekend in Brandon, the Impact 16U team took second in the 16U tournament. Losing a very close game to the Wesmen 16U team.

Our games start friday evening with the playoffs on Saturday. We trained for 4 hours this week and I have a feeling that we will do well in this tournament. More information about the games to come on Monday.

Wesmen gets Gold in Brandon

THAT'S RIGHT BRANDON, BOOM!!!
WESMEN GETS GOLD IN THE BRANDON TOURNAMENT.

Okay, so as you can probably tell, I am pretty pumped about these weekends events. This isn't the first time this season that we have placed in a tournament but this is the first time that we got first! Holy crap, I was getting a rush from the energy in the room. It was crazy. Out there on the court, making the amazing plays and cheering with your teammates and coaches and fans. BEST FEELING EVER. I was put in for setter for the first set and we dominated. We got an early lead of 17-9 but they started catching up. We shut the door with some unreal plays and ended the set at 20-25.

The energy on that court was insane. No ball was hitting the floor without at least three athletes going down with it. There were some amazing hits and spectacular digs. The blocking was so good that the setters had to work super hard to get their hitters from being stuffed. Overall, this was the best game I had ever played, and it felt so good.

Many more golds to come for Wesmen.

Brandon, here comes Wesmen

This weekend the Junior Wesmen 15U team is heading to Brandon to compete in a tournament. I don't know any details of the tournament (ie. what teams are coming, how many teams there are) but I do know that my first game starts at 11 so my team will be heading out at 7 am from Winnipeg. We trained hard this week so I believe we will perform well in the tournament. I will give an overview of the tournament on Monday when we get back.
Have a fantabulous weekend.
